With that, he went back to work finishing up his evening tasks. It was getting dark early and tonight had a lot of rain and thunder on the horizon. There were sheets of it pouring down against the windows. He worked on closing down one of the espresso machines, he won't need both at this hour and it would be less work for him later. He sang a soft song his mother used to sing, something from 20 years earlier as he worked.
It was only the two of them in the shop no one else seemed to brave the weather to get a coffee at this hour.
There was a crash suddenly causing him to jump. Lightning illuminating the dark sky. Then there was only darkness in the shop and another crash in front of it.
"Ms Jiang Are you alright?" he called from the other side of the shop, looking for his cell phone under the register to try and light his way. "The power is out. I'll get my phone and see what's going on."
